Menology Entry for January 8:

Feast of Our Lady of Quick Help or of Prompt Succor, in French, Notre Dame du Prompt Secours, commemorating the American victory over the English in the Battle of New Orleans, Jan. 8, 1815 A.D.; Pope Pius IX authorised the public devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary under this title, Sept. 21, 1851, & designated Jan. 8 as its feast day; Pope Leo XIII granted a Pontifical decree of Canonical Coronation, June 21, 1894 which coronation was executed by Archbishop Francis August Janssens, Nov. 10, 1895;

Our Lady of Piety (Nossa Senhora da Piedade), in aspiratione; the feast of Our Lady of Piety was originated by a provincial synod of Cologne in 1423 A.D., as a response to the impieties of the Hussite iconoclasts, designated for the Friday after the third Sunday after Easter, under the title of Commemoratio angustiae et doloris Beatae Mariae Virginis

The Holy Martyrs of Beauvais, in France, Saints Lucianus, priest, Maximianus & Julianus; the last two were killed with the sword by the persecutors, but blessed Lucianus, who had come to France with St. Denis, not fearing, after the slaughter of his companions, to confess the name of Christ openly, received the same sentence of death;

The Holy Martyrs of Lybia, now the Arab SettlerColony called "Libya," Saints Theophilus, deacon, & Helladius, who, after being lacerated & cut with sharp pieces of earthenware, were cast into the fire, and rendered their souls to God;

St. Eugenianus, Bishop of Autun, Martyr; he was made the 5th Bishop of Autun, according to St. Gregory of Tours, immediately after the death of Bishop St. Cassianus in 355 A.D., for his fierce defence of the Catholic faith against the heretical Arianism, he was martyred, Jan. 8, 374 A.D.;

St. Apollinaris, Bishop of Hierapolis in the Roman province of Asia, in western Anatolia, who was conspicuous for sanctity & learning, under Emperor Marcus Antoninus Verus;

St. Lawrence Justinianus, confessor, first patriarch of Venice, eminent for learning, & abundantly filled with the Heavenly gifts of divine wisdom, he was ranked among the Saints by Pope Alexander VIII & is again mentioned on Sept. 5;

St. Maximus, Bishop of Pavia, Confessor.

St. Patiens, Bishop of Metz;

St. Severinus, Bishop of Naples, in Campania, Martyr, brother to the blessed martyr Victorinus who, after working many miracles, went to rest, replenished with virtues & merits; it is said that this St. Severinus was actually the Bishop of Septempeda, now called San Severino, & that his actual feast is June 8, & that his feast was switched to Jan. 8 due to being confused with the Austrian St. Severinus; be that as it may, this is a question for the Catholic Church to clarify, not for the Whore Church

St. Severinus, hermit & monk, & Abbot, in Noricum, now Austria, who preached the Gospel in that country, & is called its Apostle, & died, as he had prophesied, Jan. 8, 482 A.D., his body was carried to Lucullanum, near Naples, & thence transferred to the monastery of St. Severinus, by his disciple St. Eugippius
